There were so many great opportunities and memorable moments while we were in Cuba. My favorite moment would have to be worshipping in a local church, hands down. When we arrived at the church the pastor greeted us, and shared with us that 17 people would be getting baptized that day. I was excited to hear such good news. The day we went was set aside to honor pastors so Pastor Melchor, the leader of Springs of Living Water Church did not preach. Our very own Drew Phillips delivered a message on finding your Jerusalem. At the conclusion of the sermon Pastor Melchor took over and prepared the congregation for the 17 baptisms. I was already excited to be there to witness so many new believers ready to give their all to Christ no matter what it may cost them. After each person came from under the water the praises would go up and we began to sing and dance in celebration of every new soul. A few things really stuck with me about this event: 1) Pastor Melchor was fully dressed in his church clothes while performing these baptisms 2) the baptismal pool was no larger than the communion table that sits at the alter of our churches 3) These people came from under the water with such excitement I just couldn't believe it. Seeing the fiery passion burning inside these new comers to Christ moved me to tears. (Typing that put me right back in that moment and made me want to cry again.) I cried because my brothers and sisters in Christ were so excited about Christ in a country that oppresses those who proclaim the very name of Christ. They were literally screaming for Christ and later I evaluated myself and saw that I am not loud enough for Christ. This trip definitely allowed me to see how I am suppose wave the blood stained banner with pride.
