I often ask the students, “where do you see God in this experience/country/group.” I want them to begin to “look” for the presence of God in all times, places, people.

Here we are bring in our last night here in Cape Town.
As I prepare myself for our flight back home I think to myself, Did we accomplished our Mission here in South Africa as a TEAM... I think about the life changing stories we have listened to, the smile we have seen appear on a dispersed face, hugs we received, laughs we made, jokes told, songs and dances shared, bible verses shared, and the multiple circles we have formed to say a prayer and give thanks to GOD. with all of our work and goals that we haveset out to complete done. All of our had work wondnt mean anything if we did not get Today we debriefed with Jennifer, our Living Hope team coordinator.
We repeated many words: hopeful joyful grateful appreciative By the end of our reflection I'd forgotten whether we were describing ourselves or the group with whom we'd come to serve. One of our main tasks was to minister to Living Hope staff in the many arenas in which they serve, (hospitals, clinics, chaplains, counselors, life coaches, after school programs) and encourage, listen to, and pray with them. We concluded our time with a hand-washing, an opportunity for the Chowan team to serve the Living Hope team--the servants being served. We were humbled by their response and hopeful and generous spirit. I long ago learned and have since preached that the best thing a mission team can do is love one another. I wish all teams could love and serve like this one has. Ever-grateful for your prayers and support and ever-proud of the Chowan family, Drew Phillips |
