Honestly, I expected a lot and God completely blew my expectations out of the water. There were so many moments that will stick out in my head, but I can categorize two of my favorite moments: Spiritual and Social. My spiritual moment was a moment of God speaking to me through a memory. A friend of mine had mentioned there was a church in my home's area looking for volunteers to build a playground. I felt God tell me that was something I was going to do, but never got the opportunity. However, on the trip, I had the opportunity to help make a playground safe...God showed me it was a greater thing than I had even imagined.
My social moment was the one where I had my eyes opened. I was discussing my degree (Religion) with one of the men working with us (His name was Dave) while we were working. He stopped and began asking me Bible questions. We talked for a bit and he said "We'll talk more during break." When break came, our discussion moved from just us to a larger group that included the other man working with us (His name was Anesu). It eventually moved from questions to us discussing the power of God and His Son Jesus. I was so touched by the hunger for discussion that I was almost moved to tears. I'll not forget either of these things.
Door of Hope has inspired me with what they are doing. Helping save babies is a worthy cause in itself, but the way they are doing it makes my soul smile.
