Helping others has always been something I enjoy doing, so this trip did not feel like a "mission" for me. I really enjoyed getting out and seeing a different part of the Carolinas.
One of the most shocking things to me was the fact that I interacted with people I've seen walking around school all year. Sitting down and getting to know different individuals was one of the best things about this trip. Another memorable moment was attending Bible Study at Mother Emanuel. The message was talking about the roles of leaders and how they faced a lot on a day-to-day basis. I even recorded that message so that I can always go back to it. The leader was the pastor and as a member of the congregation you do not notice all the obligations he or she may carry. The final amazing aspect about the trip was during group reflection when Mama Mari pointed out how people on the street looked at us awe. That was because we were a group of individuals made up of different backgrounds, demographics and ethnicities. That just shows when God calls his people to serve they can put all differences aside so that his will be done.
I look forward to going on more mission trips in the future and getting to know my peers in different surroundings all while serving God.
