- Initially, when I was given the opportunity to provide media coverage on the South Africa trip I was super excited. I wanted to travel, I felt honored that Chowan trusted me with the responsibility, and I was curious about how I would shape the story I was going to write. After learning about the Door of Hope and understanding their mission, it immediately became a struggle for me to fathom how I was ever going to juggle my job duties of covering the story and being present, flexible, and willing.
My favorite memory is of when I was able to pray for three friendly South African natives that joined us for devotions one night around our 18 chairs-deep dinner table. I felt that because I was documenting the event I should be the one on the outside of the circle observing during the entire trip. That was not the case at all. We all were family, regardless of our job title back at Chowan. We all shared our weaknesses and divided our strengths and I believe that is what made the overall experience rewarding.
- I appreciate the Door of Hope for their hospitality and willingness to go over and beyond for us. The work that they are doing does not only impact the lives of the babies, but the lives of those who see their efforts in making this world a better place.
